Currency
Local currency is the Pula (P), and Thebe (T). Notes are in denominations of P5, P10, P20, P50 and P100. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 Thebe, P1 and P2.
The US Dollar is the currency of preference. When you are tipping, or purchasing at craft-markets, it helps to be carrying $2 and $5 bills. The reason for the preference in the informal business trades is that it makes trade easier across borders like Zambia and Zimbabwe, obviating the need to convert between local currencies. One dollar is one dollar. No Conversion!
Languages
The official language is English and the national language is Setswana. The Setswana word “Pula”, means “rain”.

Major hotels, shops, and restaurants accept credit cards, though smaller establishments might not.
Shopping:
Tourists usually stock up on curios when visiting Botswana. Local handiworks worth buying include hand-woven baskets, San jewellery, and traditional Herero dolls.
Tipping:
Tipping is not required but is always appreciated. Safari guides, especially, rely on visitors’ tips as a means of earning a decent living. In more urbanized areas, a 10% is usually expected.
Religion:
Indigenous beliefs 85% and Christian 15%.
Climate:
Botswana is almost all desert (80% of the country is covered by the semi-arid Kalahari Desert. The climate reflects the country’s geography, with hot days and cool nights throughout the year. The rainy season is from November to March.

One of the newest and larger of the camps in the Okavango Delta Moremi Crossing has been build on a palm fringed island overlooking Chief’s Island. The camp prides itself on its ecofriendly approach to solar and waste disposal. The accommodation consists of 16 en suite tents on raised decks, each with their own veranda. The camps includes both a family and honeymoon tent. The crescent-shaped main building consists of a large open plan deck that has a spectacular view over the Boro River onto Chief’s Island providing feeling of space. The dining room, bar and lounge are covered by a large thatched roof and includes various small private lounge areas which have been created for comfort and privacy. Moremi Crossing also has a curio shop. Situated on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve, Moremi Crossing offers the traditional activities of a water based camp, mokoro excursions, bush walks and boat cruises. Additionally Moremi Crossing offers island camping. Mokoro excursions give guests a sedate way to experience the Okavango Delta at a pace which allows guests to absorb the scenery. Bush walks at Moremi Crossing are conducted on surrounding islands provide an exhilarating way of viewing undisturbed game under the supervision of a qualified guide. These walks allow the guide the opportunity to point out details often missed on vehicle borne safaris. Motor boat excursions provide a way of exploring the channels of the Okavango Delta’s Boro River as it slowly flows towards Maun. Motor Boats allow guests to travel further afield experiencing the breadth of the Okavango Delta. With access predominantly by using Moremi Crossing’s private airstrip guests are able to gain an understanding of the scale of the Okavango Delta as they fly in.

Mokoros and boat cruises at Moremi Crossing and Gunn’s camp is dependent on water levels. Water levels are generally highest may-sept. During other months water levels are often still high enough to conduct all activities.
Fishing is closed for breeding season throughout Botswana in Jan & Feb and is water level dependent.

Chobe Bush Lodge is the newly opened sister lodge to Chobe Safari Lodge. Located next door to Chobe Safari Lodge Chobe Bush Lodge offers modern spacious rooms in a tranquil setting. The lodge borders on the Chobe National Park. The entrance gate to Chobe National Park is a short 5 minute drive away and the boat cruises enter the park directly from Chobe Safari Lodge.Bush Lodge is located away from the Chobe River banks but most rooms do have a distant view of the river. Chobe Bush Lodge shares facilities with Safari Lodge next door. Guests can use the restaurants and bars at both lodges. There is also an activity office at Chobe Safari Lodge which serves both lodges. Activities on offer include boat cruises, game drives, fishing, traditional village tours and day tours to the Victoria Falls. Chobe Bush Lodge offers guests a bar and pool area, buffet breakfast and a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Guests that want to enjoy buffet meals can do so at Chobe Safari Lodge.
